Dumbfounded.

Posted by pappy74 on January 21, 2008

I received an email from a relative claiming Barack Obama was a radical Muslim and implied he agrees with the terrorists. The ‘facts’ represented in the email were easily debunked by snopes.com.

I replied to her entire ‘To’ list -

Completely and totally *FALSE*. Even though the email tries to trick you into thinking otherwise, snopes.com does *not* support this!

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

Nearly every statement in this email is either a misdirection or flat-out wrong.

Whether or not you support Obama, people should not be making decisions based on crap like this.

Please, please, please do a simple fact-check before spreading mis-information!

A tiny bit harsh perhaps, but I didn’t think it was anything too inflammatory. That is, until I received this reply (no clue who this person is) -

People can vote based on any information they want! whether Obama is Muslim or not, he doesn’t have good morals and this country should not be run by someone like him. I’ll base my vote on morals, and usually muslims and/or muslim raised people don’t have good morals. try reading the koran.

Are you kidding me?! This is the sort of racist, ignorant – wait, not ignorant… that’s too kind a word – *idiotic* foolishness that got Bush in to office. Sigh.

a little bit dumber

Posted by pappy74 on July 27, 2007

You ever read something that immediately makes you dumber? Try this…

FirstPostGuy:

SO YEAH, SOMEONE MADE THIS ABOUT ME. DO YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS? NO? THATS RIGHT YOU DON’T. YOU DON’T KNOW SHIT. I MEAN, IT’S SUPPOSED TO INSULT ME BUT LISTEN, THERE IS NO (FUCK I WISH I COULD CAPS LOCK THAT BUT I AM ALREADY IN MAXIMUM CAPS LOCK) SUCH THING AS BAD PUBLICITY. I AM FAMOSE. THAT’S RIGHT. FAMOSE. YOU NOOBS SHOULD ALL TAKE TRIPCODES AND SEE IF YOU CAN BECOME MORE FAMOSE THAN ME. YOU KNOW WHAT? YOU CAN’T. THAT’S RIGHT. BECAUSE I’M THE FUCKING EPIC FIRST POST GUY. I TAKE FIRST POSTS. I TAKE FIRST POSTS SO FAST YOUR MOMMA IS A HOE. TRY BEAT ME, I CHALLENGE YOU. ALSO, FUCK ANONYMOUS. TRIPCODEPWNERERS FTW.

Honestly, while reading that, I actually forgot how to spell ‘famous.’ I had to sit back and get the image of ‘FAMOSE’ out of my head. Such a weird feeling.

This was from a silly post about odd communities on-line.

the good stuff

Posted by pappy74 on November 2, 2006

OK, enough negativity for the moment.  Let’s focus on some good stuff.

Firstly, I’m so very proud of my Channie.  Flies to 6 interviews in 4 cities last week, and already has 4 offers… including a Top10 firm in NY.  Simply amazing.

Since I drove down, I am finally able to take a nice chess set my mom got for me back up.

The Prestige kicked ass.

I have an interview with Boston College next week for a great programming position in Mike’s department.

The Gamefly service *rocks*.  Especially since I usually get all excited about a game, buy it, play it for a week, then never look at it again.  Now, I spend 20 bucks a month and can play a lot more games.  They even let ya buy the game you currently have at a good ‘used’ price if you’d like.  If anyone wants to join up, use my ‘referral’ link please (http://friends.gamefly.com/r/1a257172bbb11029919d).

My 2 month old niece is an adorable sleeping and shitting machine.  With all the guys in her life, she’s gonna know how to work us silly.  Watch out, boys ;)

My 5 year old nephew/Godson is as much a hellion as his father.  He’s in that stage where he thinks he can get away with anything just by saying “I’m sorry” and giving you a big hug.  And dagnabbit, it works!

It feels good knowing I’ve introduced so many cool new games to my family.

My brother has been moved from Tackle to End, a position he *greatly* prefers and can have a little more fun with.  Besides, since slimming down over the past year, he really doesn’t have the build for Tackle anymore anyway.

OK, that’s good for now.  I’m kinda thinking of participating in this NaBloPoMo, where you’re supposed to post every day for a month.  Dunno, I probably won’t even get past the first few days.  I simply just don’t have that much to say :)

More unpleasantness

Posted by pappy74 on November 1, 2006

(again, please skip this one if you’re squeamish or particularly empathetic)

So, not shockingly, the past couple of weeks have been a major roller coaster.  On the one hand, tons of folks have come by and called and stuff.  And I think I’ve become much closer to my siblings (technically one half-brother, one step-sister, 2 step brothers, but they’ll always be brothers and sister to me)… not to mention introducing them to the big box o’ games I brought with me (favorites seem to be Bohnanza, Coloretto and Spank the Monkey).

On the other, watching dad progress, knowing you can’t do a damned thing to help, while even the pain pills don’t always do much, is killing me.  And he is progressing.  Lately, he can’t really eat anymore.  He’s tried, but his digestive system is messed up… nothing goes through.  And he sleeps more and more each day.

As I’m not working or anything, I volunteer every chance I get to help out my step-mom with taking care of dad.  She’s actually bearing the brunt of this whole thing, as he generally won’t talk to anyone else.  For a bit, he was taking the pills every 2 hours and we had to wake him up for that.  I generally got the late night shift, and she took early morning.  Now, they’ve switched up the meds so he only takes stuff as necessary.  Oh, and we set up a baby monitor so I can hear him if he needs something while I’m sleeping (I sleep lightly).  Even now, I can hear him snore softly and occasionally grunt in pain.  I wince every time I hear that.

Ah well, there’s so much more going on, but that’s the big stuff. I wish I had started a new blog just to describe this experience. Sometimes the whole ordeal seems easier than it should, but more often, it’s so much harder (especially late at night). Dad did call me over to tell me a very heartfelt ‘I love you’ a few minutes ago though. I think it was because I so calmly cleaned up the blood-clot laden puke from his basin. Dunno.

Oh, and also… Hospice is quite possibly the most amazing service I’ve ever experienced. I had heard their name before, but never realized what they did. When next I volunteer, it will likely be for them.
